Free at Last, or am I

i have just spent the last 3 or 4 hours reading everyone's posts and i am so thrilled and relieved that sites like this exist which allow us ex jw's to express ourselves.

i feel compelled to share my story, even though it is probably quite unremarkable.

i have this feeling that finally being able to express my thoughts albeit on the web, will finally allow me some freedom!.

Oh I can so relate to your story. I have been out for about 10 or 11 years as well and like you never felt the need to go back or missed it in any way. I am also new to this board, I started posting a few days ago and it was my first ever posting on a site like this. Funny still how that programming works, I am just now startd to realize that I spent the better part of many years being a JW apologist. I also like you still have a relantionship with my parents. I have a child and and we celebrate all holidays like crazy people (we have to make up for lost time )

My parents just recently found out we celebrate the holidays and it wasn't really a problem we just don't talk about it ever and I try hard not to rub it in there faces sort to speak. One thing that really helped me to realize is that you are an adult with your own family, yo make your own decisions now that are good for you. Your parents still loved you after you walked away from religon perhaps if one of your children slip and say something about the holidays it would be small compared to you leaving the whole religon. Also you being gone and happy for 12 years must say something to your parents who notice that. Try to keep living your life the way you are and not be pulled into the old way of thinking whether the society approves of your bahavoir...

We've been invited to a JC

for those of you don't know our story sweet pea and i stopped attending all meetings quite abruptly about 4 months ago.

since then we have had a few ill-advised conversations with jw friends and family stating our reasons - sometimes in emails.

also sp emailed a new friend on another forum her experiene with going to a new church.

The only reason I disappeared and faded out without DA'ing myself was out of respect for my witness parents. I did not want them to have to face the humilation that goes along with having a family member DF'ed or DA'ed.

That being said if it wasn't for them I would have gone out with a huge bang and made all sorts of noise and probably popped there bubble about all the other kids drinking and having sex at parties (the kids that everyone thought were so good) Still to this day I wish I had made more noise and gone down in flames.

I couldn't get through all of it but it seems almost like chapter 1 was enough. As far as I heard my whole life growing up as a JW it was drilled into me that the UN was bad. Even as a much younger person I can rememeber hearing the UN was the beast and I didn't even really no what the UN was. This guy who wrote these articles seems to forget the most important simple fact of all. On what grounds at all does it seem ok for the Society to have any involvement whatsoever with the UN even an offshoot. For sake of argument lets say the Society didn't know exactly what they were getting into, lets also say that things got twisted around and before they realized it they were more involved than they orignally intended. Well I still come back to the fact that there shouldn't have been any grounds for association with what they deemed the beast I mean come lets just invite Satan over for a cup of tea to talk things over. Remeber "Bad association spoils useful habits"

I really don't see how any defense works in this case. Nothing that can be said makes it okay no matter how small the level.

However what I did read was interesting, interesting yet sad... I feel bad for the guy defending them like a programmed robot. I feel bad for all those still stuck in the lies. I feel bad for every person who can't see past the delusion and says they are happy waiting for something they will never see.

Shunning of ex JW family members imposed or optional?

some supportes of the jws argue that the wts does not impose on its followers to shun and disgrace ex jw family members, it leaves them the option to decide on the issue and some shun and others do not.

is that an honest arguments or is it like the blood issue where the wts supposedly doesn't impose on its members the decision to refuse blood?

for all we know the non shunning of ex jw family members except for absolutely necessary contact could lead a jw to dfing.

Luckily for me I was out before this "New Light" in 2002..Didn't know they had come down that much harder on the whole shunning thing....Apart from my parents (My Mom is a rebel and doesn't even know it) I shunned everyone else, friends and even a few distant family members. I did not go to any family funerals that took place in a Kingdom Hall anymore than I would expect the JW's to come to a church for a funeral.

I quess my parents and I kind of have a don't ask don't tell policy because I am pretty sure other than my mothers close friends she sure doesn't go around saying she has an apostate daughter, that might put a damper on things with this whole 2002 business. Thank goodness she is the master of denial after being in JW's for her whole life that I quess she can ignore the fact that I'm "unbelieving"

Now there was no cars at the church and the doors were shut yet blaring out was "Let's stay together" Does anyone esle find the humor in this?
